Ben on board · Standing client

Two people. One low anchor.

Here I’m on the board, and you’re standing in front. This concept would give you room to move off the platform while I provide the counterweight. The unit still sits near the floor.

Standing on the board does not raise the anchor. The hand moves upward and forward in this example to follow the cable’s line.

Concept to validate before offering: this two-person arrangement needs manufacturer confirmation and checks for sliding, tipping, and balance. Trainer weight alone does not establish a safe load.

Concept illustrations, not setup instructions. Your free home assessment determines which equipment, anchors, and movements are suitable.

Your coach · In-home training in Cary

Hi, I’m Ben.

PhD statisticianNSCA-certified personal trainer

Good personal training should make your life simpler. I’ll arrive prepared, guide your sessions, and pay attention to how you’re progressing. We’ll work toward your goals with a plan that fits your life.

My background in statistics and research on fitness–fatigue models shapes how I work: plan carefully, keep useful records, and explain the reasons for adjusting your training. That care is part of the service.

Built around your life

Good training starts
with your situation.

Your goals, your schedule, and the space you have. Those are the starting points for a plan we can follow and adjust together.

01 / Assess

We start at your home.

Your first session is free. We’ll discuss your goals, look at your available space, and assess your workout options before choosing a setup.

02 / Train

I handle the details.

I bring portable equipment, plan your session, and guide each movement. We’ll choose a compact setup that works with the space you have.

03 / Learn

Your progress gets attention.

I’ll analyze your training records across sessions and review the results with you, so changes to your plan have a clear reason.

Care that carries between sessions

Your dose.
Your response.

The workout is the dose. What matters is how you respond to it.

Part of my job is to keep useful records and analyze how you’re responding. My training as a statistician helps me put those records to work, then explain what they mean for your next sessions.

  • Record the dose. Track the resistance, repetitions, and work you do.
  • Study your response. Look at changes in your performance and how sessions feel, across time.
  • Make the next session informed. We’ll review what we’re seeing and decide what to adjust together.
From dose to responseSimulated example
A 259-day simulation: after training is reduced around day 147, modeled fatigue falls faster than fitness, and modeled relative performance rises.

The gray bars are the dose. In this model, fitness pushes performance up and fatigue pulls it down. The blue line shows the balance.

Simulated example, not client results. Lines show the fitness–fatigue model; dots show simulated performance. Performance is relative to the model’s baseline. Bars show weekly training.

My research & writing

I’ve coauthored research on mathematical fitness–fatigue models, including how to fit them and how to interpret their estimates. These two papers are available as 2021 SportRxiv preprints.

Separately, Ben Stephens Hemingway’s 2021 doctoral thesis acknowledges my help developing Kalman-filter code.

Fitness, fatigue & performance

Ben Ogorek’s simulated example from Modeling cumulative impact — Part I (2019).

Fitness in green, fatigue in red, and relative performance in blue across 259 simulated days. Gray bars show training intensity. Performance rises after training is reduced around day 147.

A compact setup for your home

Less equipment.
Room to train.

I plan to use VOLTRA I by Beyond Power, a portable cable-resistance device. Its resistance is electronically controlled, so the load can be adjusted without swapping weight plates.

A floor platform supports low-anchor exercises. A suitable post and compatible strap mount can offer other pulling directions. We’ll assess what works in your home; an available post is only an option if its structure and mounting conditions are suitable.

You bring your goals. I handle the equipment and coaching.

A few practical questions

Before we begin.

Do I need a home gym?

No dedicated home gym is required. We’ll assess your floor space and movement clearance during the free first session, then discuss the equipment and exercises that fit.

What if I don’t have a suitable post?

We can explore exercises using the portable floor platform, along with other movements suited to your space. Elevated cable work depends on a suitable anchor and compatible mount; it isn’t a requirement for joining the interest list.

Is this online coaching?

The planned service is in person, in your home. I bring the portable equipment and coach you through each session.

What does “founding client” mean?

You’ll be among the first people invited to explore the service as it launches. Joining the interest list expresses interest; it doesn’t reserve a training slot or commit you to buying sessions. Session availability, pricing, and scheduling will be shared before you decide.
